We're going to the farm! Na-Da Farm

 

 
We are so, so excited to be a part of The Na-Da Farm Event this year!  It takes place this coming weekend, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7th and 8th.  We hope you can make it out for a visit.  You won't be disappointed.  There will be many other amazingly creative vendors there, all displaying there wares at the farm. There are also going to be very talented artisans giving classes (which you must sign up for). Artists like Jeanne Oliver,Jennifer Rizzo, and Jill Harris.  I can't think of a better place to have a market, or to spend a weekend.  Anne and I dream of having a farm, so this will be a treat!

There was a full page write up in the September/October issue of Midwest Living magazine. So get a babysitter, and grab your girlfriends for a night out on Friday, or for a fun fall destination on Saturday.  You won't want to miss this sale, but, if for some reason you can't make it out to Na-Da Farm, you must stop by the shop.  Tattered Tiques will be open this weekend.  Come see what's new.

The Frizzle Boys

Remember my rooster?

This was him...Mr. Frizzle.  I miss him so much. He now lives on a wonderful farm up in Sharon, Wisconsin.  I did a whole post on his new farm and owners.  Well, his new owner is such a sweetheart, she called me when she hatched some of his offspring this spring and offered me as many as I wanted. I only had room for one new chicken, so of course I took 2.

Here they are....Annie and Charm. Uh-oh...looks like we are going to have to rename them.  They grew up to be roosters.  Thats the thing about getting chicks.  Usually you don't know what they are until they are a little older.  So you take your chances and hope for hens.  I got 3 new chicks this spring...all roosters.  Dammit!

This is Marge.  Some of you might have met her at the shop back in April when she was just a chick. I think she is a rooster as well.  But I hear Silkie roosters are sometimes quiet.  So far he hasn't made a peep. I'm hoping he stays that way.  As for these two...

I think I may need to find homes for these guys.  My neighbors will soon be complaining about noise or cockfighting since they can't keep their claws of each other.  One second they are the best of friends, the next they are fighting.  Must be something with brothers...my boys act the same way.

I'm really sad about having to get rid of this one. He is going to be BEAUTIFUL.  And he is a sweet guy, which is not very common for roosters.  Maybe I'll keep him and see what happens.  Wait...whats that noise???  It's 8:30 at night...what in God's name is making that racket??

Moving Right Along

We have been very busy at the shop getting it ready for April.  We have finished all the painting, including the floors.  We have hung a large curtain to hide all our unfinished inventory, and have even squeezed in a trip to IKEA for some lighting.   Also, a special thanks to mom for all her sewing.  She not only made the curtain, but also made long burlap panels to conceal some of the upstairs view.  Here are some pictures of the updates.

This is going to be our makeshift checkout counter.  It would make such a great kitchen island. I think it would be even better with legs added to the ends. 

Well, I can't wait to get the lighting up, and our Tattered Tiques sign.  Thank you to Matt for helping out with all that.  If we could just get rid of that telephone wire behind the counter.  I wish I knew a telephone guy. 

Big News for Tattered Tiques!

Tatttered Tiques has very exciting news!  We are renting space for the summer to hold our sales out of.  Yes, it's true, we are opening a shop!  It has been a few years since we had our last space in Crystal Lake, Il.  That space was a large garage unit, we have upgraded to a warehouse.  It is located in Lake Barrington, IL.  We have already started transforming the space.  After we get done with it, it will be fabulous.  I wanted to share some before pictures with you so you can see the progress as we go along. 

 
Remember, it's a warehouse right now.  But will be transformed into a chic little shop!

 

 
There are also two offices attached to the warehouse.We will probably only use this front office.  It has a nice window to give our customers a sneak peak at what's to come in the upcoming sales. 

 
As you can see, we already had a small room removed.  That gave us much more room in the warehouse area.

We are really excited.  So much to do to get ready for the grand opening.  We are thinking that the shop will be open twice a month, for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the chosen week. The Grand Opening will tentatively be on April 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.  We will also be doing the Garden Clubs of Illinois Convention on April 18th, and all the Elkhorn Antique Markets this summer and fall, and maybe a Grayslake here and there.  We will be very busy.  Let's not forget all the junking trips we will be taking in between.  We have been gone every weekend for the last month and a half in search of great antiques, shabby, vintage farm and industrial to pass along to you.  I hope you join us in the next chapter of Tattered Tiques!

 

Easter ducklings are here!

 Every year at Easter time, the local Farm and Fleet store sells Easter chicks and ducks.  Every year, I end up taking some home.  I went today and picked out two ducklings.  I usually just get Pekin ducks...they are the large white ducks made famous by Aflac commercials.  This year, I picked out an Indian Runner duck and a Khaki Campbell.  I did order two female Pekins that will hatch in May.  I like to order my Pekin's so I can pick out the sex.  Male Pekin's grow to about 10-12 lbs and tend to pick on the other ducks, so this year, I'm going to stick with females.  I keep ducks strictly as a hobby.  One of my favorite sights is to look out into my back yard and see my ducks laying in the grass. There is something so peaceful and beautiful about them.
