Vintage Brown Transfer ware haul
These beautiful turkey dishes are one of my favorite finds ever. As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to have them. They were gorgeous! It was almost a complete set of 12. I also knew I wasn’t going to keep them. My plan was to flip them quickly before Thanksgiving, which is exactly what I did.
Aren’t they beautiful?
History of Wild Turkeys Dishes by Johnson Brothers
Johnson Brothers is a British pottery company. Founded in1883 by Brothers Alfred and Frederick Johnson. The brothers purchased a bankrupt pottery company. They initially produced earthenware called White Granite. They then started producing underglazed printed ware which led to popularity and hence later, the beautiful native American wild turkey dishes.
Native American wild turkey were made by Johnson Brothers of England and was produced from 1951 to 1974. The pattern is now retired. These beautiful vintage brown transfer ware dishes are highly collectible, and can fetch a hefty price. They were crafted in England.
These beauties will forever be one of my favorite finds. Brown transferware has also captivated me. I’ve collected pieces over the years and then passed them along to new owners to love. These dishes I’m glad to say all went to good homes!
