Vintage Johnson Brothers Turkey Dishes

Vintage Brown Transfer ware haul

These beautiful turkey dishes are one of my favorite finds ever. As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to have them. They were gorgeous! It was almost a complete set of 12. I also knew I wasn’t going to keep them. My plan was to flip them quickly before Thanksgiving, which is exactly what I did.

Aren’t they beautiful?

History of Wild Turkeys Dishes by Johnson Brothers

Johnson Brothers is a British pottery company. Founded in1883 by Brothers Alfred and Frederick Johnson. The brothers purchased a bankrupt pottery company. They initially produced earthenware called White Granite. They then started producing underglazed printed ware which led to popularity and hence later, the beautiful native American wild turkey dishes.
Native American wild turkey were made by Johnson Brothers of England and was produced from 1951 to 1974. The pattern is now retired. These beautiful vintage brown transfer ware dishes are highly collectible, and can fetch a hefty price. They were crafted in England.

These spectacular dishes by Johnson Brothers, which featured wild American turkeys, were an effort to cater to the north American market by the brothers. These traditional style dishes are a mix of English craftsmanship and American history and heritage.
Perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, these beautiful dishes will most likely be passed down from generation to generation in families that own them.

These beauties will forever be one of my favorite finds. Brown transferware has also captivated me. I’ve collected pieces over the years and then passed them along to new owners to love. These dishes I’m glad to say all went to good homes!

Vintage Halloween Blow Molds & Pumpkin Buckets

My Dining Room Halloween Display

Main table display at Christmas time When it comes to Halloween decor, I’m a classic Halloween girl at heart.🧡🖤 I love the fun, orange and black theme, with cheery jack-o’-lanterns in mass. I’ve been collecting vintage Halloween blow molds and trick-or-treat buckets, for years now. I’ve even received them as gifts from time to time.  There’s something about those smiling jack-o’-lanterns and their sweet faces that captivate me. Not all of my blow molds are vintage however. I actually have one from Target that I received as a gift last year. With my Halloween blow molds, I’ve mixed in a handful of trick-or-treating jack-o’-lantern buckets. They are the perfect addition to the blow mold display.

Light them up!

Some of the blow molds have lights in them, others I add flameless candles to, to help them glow at night. All lit up, it looks magical. On the dining room table I add a string of orange Halloween lights to help with the ambiance. Altogether they create a dreamy little spooky scene.

Where to find vintage Halloween

Over the years, I have gathered this vintage Halloween collection, from flea markets, thrift stores, antique shops, and even from friends and family. I love to thrift, so every Fall season, I’m hoping to find a vintage blow mold or old pumpkin bucket. You can usually tell the age of the blow molds by the date on the bottom, or buy the maker, which is usually listed on the bottom. Brands like Empire, and Carolina Enterprises Inc., are very common. Also, for the buckets, usually the handles have metal brackets where the handle meets the bucket.

I  hope you enjoyed my vintage Halloween bucket and blow mold display! Happy Halloween from our cozy, spooky home to yours. 🎃

Handmade Halloween Signs

Handmade Jack-o’-lantern Signs

Each year I make vintage style Jack-o’-lantern signs out of left over wood from the witch sets I make.
They are so sweet. Those big pumpkin smiles greet you each time you see them. I love making these guys, using scrap wood, and paint I have on hand from furniture projects.

I use Jolie paint and wax for my signs. It works perfect!

Handmade Witch Hat Signs

This year I wanted to try making witch hat signs For another twist on handmaid Halloween. Once again, I used scrap wood and paint that I had on hand. I made two versions. One plain, smaller hat, and one larger hat, which featured a famous quote from William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. “Double double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble.”

Didn’t they turn out great? I wanted to make these witch hat signs for a few years now and so glad I finally did it. I did end up keeping one large one, and hanging it on my front door on my wreath. I figured I’d add a little more Halloween decor out front. Since the witch hat went right along with my witchy theme outside, it was a perfect addition to the front porch.

Witch & Black Cat Yard Sets

It’s been a busy Fall season making handmade Halloween signs and witches!

This year I also offered customers witch and cat sets. These are handmade by me each year, using heavy duty plywood, and outdoor paint. Each set comes with a witch and two cats, and are ready to install in the ground. We recommend lighting them up with a floodlight, and adding other seasonal goods, like corn stalks, hay bales, pumpkins, and maybe a witches broom. These bring in so many compliments each year by neighbors.

Fall Sweet Fall

Finally, Fall has arrived!

I have always loved Fall at the shop. Decorating the shop for the Autumn season, with the warm, earthy tones and autumnal colors, always looks so beautiful. It’s such a cozy respite from the brighter colors of summer.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4th, we had our Fall Open House.

Fall Shop Displays

The shop is now over flowing with seasonal florals, pillows, decorative accents, candles, and more. Autumn themed buckets and boxes are stuffed with flannel pillows, soft Autumnal throws, fresh Bittersweet bundles, and other Fall florals. Our two tiered displays are filled to the brim with everyone’s favorite Fall themed mice. Gold framed Fall landscapes adorn the walls, and Autumnal displays fill the table tops and hutches. Pumpkins and gourds of all kinds fill bowls and bushel baskets.

Walking up to the shop from the outside, you can’t help but want to walk inside and immerse yourself in all the Autumn feels. We have an apple pie candle burning in the background, which pulls you in and reminds you of Fall baking. It’s a whole experience for the new season. Want to purchase our favorite Fall candles? We just got a fresh batch of Antique Candle Co. candles in all our favorite Fall scents. Stop by the shop, or visit this link here.
