"Gold Rush" Part 1

Last week Anne and I took off after work on Thursday to drive 6 hours to Oronoco Mn, for "Gold Rush Days".  We had heard of this whole town flea market bonanza a couple of years back and decided to give it a try.  Well, it was worth the trip!  We loved it!  It was pretty overwhelming because we only had one day to go through the whole thing.  We were overwhelmed, tired, hot, crabby, starving and had to get through it all in a day and then drive home.  I had to share with you what we saw.

Here is just one of the many streets in town lined up and down with vendors.

Now for the good stuff.

There were some great displays at this market, but the junky looking booths were more for us!

As you can see, there was a little bit of everything at this market.  How about a gigantic, awesome steer for your yard?  He was amazing.

I wanted her so bad, but she was way out of my price range.

I was so excited when I saw this.  It's anantique French bee skep.  It was fabulous!  I had never seen one before.

Gold Rush 069 (800x600)
These guys were so cute and I thought about bringing them home because I have a little white westie.  But, I saved my moola and instead bought a vintage light up plastic cow.  You know how I love cows.  I figure I may not ever have a real one, so a plastic one will have to do.

Gold Rush 146 (800x600)
This thing was so awesome.  I thought about it all day.  Anne and I finally went back for it before we headed out of town and bought it!
There is something wonderful about multiples of things and this market had a ton.

They always make for the best pictures.

We brought a bunch more of these home with us.

Something we are addicted to.  Antique and vintage clocks.  Just can't get enough of them.

We also have a thing for stools.

Gold Rush 087 (800x600)
Gold Rush 052 (800x600)
These antique baby baths were from a Hungarian hospital.  They were so cool, I had to get one for our shop.  They would make great ice buckets for a party, or an adorable planter.

Gold Rush 056 (800x600)
And shop is what we did.  We actually bought almost all of this vendors old letters.

I have much more to share so stop by later this week for part 2 of Gold Rush.  For more information on Oronoco Minnesota, or Gold Rush days visit  http://www.goldrushmn.com/.

Ekhorn Friends

Hey, everyone, I have to make this quick because I'm dead tired after an exhausting day at Elkhorn Antique Market.  I just wanted to share a few pictures of some of the other vendors at the market and their wonderful wares.

First is Gracie's Cottage.  Always filled with tons of goodies, and such a treat for the eyes as well.

I'm sure these guys enjoyed hanging out with the ladies all day.

Lots of littles.

They had such cute little vignettes set up all over their booth.  For more on Gracie's Cottage, visit them at www.cobblecreek.blogspot.com

Next was The Potting Shed - Anything Goes Here.  Anne and I had to stop and see all the "girls".  This booth had tons to choose from, at very reasonable prices.

Aren't they great!  I would be in heaven if I had this many dress forms.  They were wonderful.  This vendor's booth is always a treat to go see.  She also has a ton to offer on line at Etsy.  For more visit www.anythinggoeshere.etsy.com or the www.thepottingshed-anythinggoeshere.blogspot.com .

Last but certainly not least were the two adorable ladies from Apron Strings with Mom and Me.  This mother daughter duo had the cutest display.

Notice the aprons hanging in the background.  So cute!

Well, we hope you enjoyed your weekend.  Anne and I enjoyed Elkhorn a little more than usual today, thanks to my husband.  He helped us out all day and worked his tail off (mom had my kids at a family reunion - talk about exausting!), while Anne and I walked around and shopped, and ate, and shopped, and ate some more.  We managed to walk through the whole market, more that a couple of times.  My feet were killing me.  So a special thanks to him for all his hard work today!!

Here he is before we ditched him for the day.  I think he has a new appreciation for what us girls do all day!

French Shopping Cart

IMG_2448
Mom's been busy!  She stopped by my house the other day to show me what she was working on. Right away I told her to leave the stuff so I could take some pics and show you guys.

IMG_2450
Isn't this so cute?  She made the liner out of burlap, and then stenciled on a piece of osnaburg and stitched it into place.  It's such a great way to freshen up these useful old carts.  I personally use one as a laundry basket.

IMG_2455
She also took this fabulous, but newer, basket and gave it a great vintage feel by adding upholstery webbing and a stenciled number.  Adding a number to anything automatically gives a piece a vintage look.

IMG_2459
Not only was she sewing, stenciling and thinking of creative ways to sell our wares, but she was also stripping and refinishing an old wicker table I had found at a garage sale.  This little table had a terrible white top with some sun's stenciled on it. Mom of course new right away what to do.  It looks great!

Good job mom!
