Drawers, Drawers, Drawers

Image 2

We aquired these 2 old drawed pieces at a recent auction. As soon as we saw them, we knew we had to have them.  But, they didn't look this great sitting at the auction house.

Still cool, but in need of some love.

Nothing a little Annie Sloan can't fix.  We also had some old pulls on hand to add to her appeal.

I love that the smaller one actually had this beading on it. It makes it that much better!

Hey Girl....

So, I know this is totally random and off subject for us, but I just have to post these images.  I was literally in tears lauging when I came across them on pinterest.  I'm sure most of you are unfamiliar with these Ryan Gosling "Hey girl" quotes. I'm a huge Gosling fan, so I have noticed them around the internet lately. They usually say some sort of silly comment or saying about dating or movies.  But I found some on pinterest that pertain to blogging and I'm not sure why, but I think they are the funniest damn things ever.  Here is my absolute favorite:

Blog
Now, you have to understand, we at Tattered Tiques are the most self deprecating individuals you will ever meet.  We make fun of our "pretend" shop and "unworthy" blog ALL the time.  So this Gosling quote hit home hard.  I couldn't even read it to Julie over the phone cause I was laughing so hard.

Chaos
So true right?  We are always talking about how we could do a post about vinettes in our house, but we would just have to zoom in really tight so you don't see the rest of the room!

Glitter
He is talking to Julie here..she is famous for having glitter on her face.

Fabric store
This one hits home for me. I ask my husband the same question so many times that he has put me at a one question maximum. If I ask more than that, he just stares at me. It's so frustrating! I wish I had a man like Ryan that liked my repetitive questions!

How true is this! Every crafter I know has a dining room filled with junk.

Too funny! OK..I'll stop. I could go on and on. If you think these are funny at all(I know some of you fellow bloggers will totally undersand this humor) check out Hand Made Ryan Gosling.  Sorry to stray from the usual vintage feel...I just had to share these.  The funniest part of the whole thing is that I feel like someone has a camera in Tattered Tiques...all these quotes are SO us. We are big dorks and it is nice to know there are other people out there in this vintage market that don't take themselves too seriously.  I can't even show this post to my husband cause he wouldn't find the humor in it....this is his life.  He has wanted to video tape the three of us all year to show people how insane we are...he's going to be mad that someone stole his idea and put Ryan's face on it.

UpCycled Stairs

We had a lot of interest in the beautiful, aged, grey shelves we currently have in the shop. I thought they deserved even more attention.  They actually were made by a very handy friend of ours.  He took his neighbors old steps that were being discarded, and recycled them into a beautiful shelving unit.  We just adore them.  The color is amazing, and they are deep enough to hold many a collection!

Jan shop 2 033 (450x800) (2)
Recycling at it's best!  Look at how deep the shelves are.  You could fill this chalk full of a collection.  I would fill it with all my globes, or maybe all of my white and cream vases.  What would you fill it with?

Jan shop 2 034 (800x450)
Here's a close up of one of Anne's beautiful banners.  The colors go perfect with this shelf.

We are off again to another auction tomorrow, in search of more treasures.

We had such a blast visiting with all of you this weekend at the shop.  Thanks for stopping by!  We will be open again next weekend, January 19,20,21, and again on January 26,27,28.  Have a great weekend everybody!

A Passion for Painting

My mom(Nancy) and I have been buying and selling Antiques for over 12 years now.  Anne has quite a few years under her belt as well.  It's amazing how excited we still get after we transform an ugly, or tired, unnoticed piece of antique furniture to something that is so adorable and loved once again.  It never gets old. We love to paint old furniture, but always give a beautful old antique a chance before we paint it. I was in the shop today, marking the furniture tags with the ASCP colors.  As I was walking around, I was remembering how ugly and tired most of the pieces looked. I thought I should share.

Auction jan 001 (800x450)
Bad, really Bad! Dark, dingy, and ignored.

Jan shop 2 039 (800x450)
Until now. Look at her smile.

Jan shop 2 040 (450x800)
Painted in Annie Sloan's French Linen, she shines, with her little crystal knobs, and light tatter.  Adorable, and so much more usable now!

Jan shop 2 044 (800x450)
It's remarkable what new life paint can give an old piece of furniture.  This piece would be perfect as a night stand, tv stand, or extra storage in a bathroom.

December shop 012 (800x450)
This dresser has seen better days.  She's been neglected and unappreciated for too long!

Jan shop 2 048 (800x450)
This by far is one of my favorite little dresser's we've had.  I don't know if it's all the jewelry she has now, which makes her look dressed up, but she's so cute.

Jan shop 2 050 (800x450)

Jan shop 2 051 (800x450)
She is painted in Annie Sloan's Old White.  Dressed to the max in big and little crystal knobs, she's perfect for a bedroom, bath, or kitchen (hint, hint).

Shop pics oct 015 (410x800)
Boring!

Jan shop 2 061 (450x800)
Fun and fresh now.

Jan shop 2 064 (450x800)
This secretary is painted in Old White, with a light tatter, and hand painted numbers to give it a fresh new take on vintage.

Shop pics oct 011 (800x600)
Last but not least, a tired old desk.  We've had lots of requests for desks and this weekend this one is making it's debut.

Jan shop 2 016 (800x450)
Great for a bedroom, living room or office, this desk is ready.  She's painted in Country Grey, and carries her original knobs with a light tatter to her edges.  This desk, along with all the other pieces shown here are still available.

I hope we have inspired you to breath new life into an old worn forgotten piece of the past.  Thanks to all our customer's today who braved our first midwest winter storm! Have a great weekend everybody!

What's New?

The past couple of weeks we have been trying to fit in as many mini day trips and auctions as we can. Keeping the shop full keeps us busy. Two weeks ago Anne and I spent the whole weekend searching for treasures. On Saturday we drove around southern Wisconsin in search of goods, and came up almost empty handed. Then Sunday we headed north again, and we actually ran into our new friend, from Urbanfarmgirlandco at an auction. It's always nice to run into fellow junkers like yourself, however, because we were so chatty, we were actually asked to be quiet. I felt like I was back in grade school, both embarrassed and annoyed! Anyway, Anne and I left pretty much empty handed from that too, so we were off again this past weekend. This time, we had more luck, a whole van full kind of luck. We just wanted to share a little of what's new at the shop. Auction jan 173 (800x450)
We loooove this old biscuit box.

Auction jan 182 (450x800)

Jan shop 2 021 (648x800)

This is a great little cabinet which would look good in any room of the house. She is painted in Annie Sloan's Country Grey.

Auction jan 172 (800x450)
This piece made its debut the last 2 sales and got lots of notice.  It would work as a great desk, work bench or kitchen island.  It's fab!

Auction jan 167 (450x800)
An adorable old baby scale with some reworked antique trim pieces (they make great jewelry displays when hooks are added).

Auction jan 146

Auction jan 154 (800x450) (615x449)
This table is not new, but customers have shown a ton of interest.  We found lots of small chairs this weekend, a couple new stools too.

Jan shop 2 056 (800x450)
Little soap dishes.

Jan shop 2 031 (800x450)
Old army blankets, and new baskets in different sizes.

Jan shop 2 043 (450x800)

The secretary got a face lift recently.  It turned out so cute.

Auction jan 159 (450x800)
This chippy old leather top stool is so perfect.  It just needs a little tlc.

Auction jan 183 (800x450)
We thought this should be left unpainted for a while.  It's in really good shape.  But boy oh boy will she be pretty with some ASCP on her!

Auction jan 178 (800x450)
We've added quite a few cool pieces of hardware.

 Auction jan 193 (800x449)

Vintage dictionary bundles.

Auction jan 196 (413x800)

Mini Book bundles.

Jan shop 2 033 (450x800)
We are crazy about this blue grey shelf.  Anne has her eye on it already!

Jan shop 2 051 (800x450)
Jan shop 2 015 (800x450)

Auction jan 152 (800x450)
These metal numbers would look great attached to a basket. There are lots of other treasures too.
