Late Summer Shop Display

Late summer is an awkward time at the shop. Most customers are busy with Summer activities like vacation, baseball games, grad parties, gardening and more. Due to the nice weather and busy schedules, business is unfortunately slow. During this slow time we usually plan for the next season. Fall sweet Fall. But first…late Summer displays.

Front Table Display

First Impressions are everything

In August, we decided to mix things up a bit on the front table. We went from American flags and houseplants to ferns and lanterns. Using what we had, we brought everyday and Summer merchandise forward and used it in a different way. We mixed fern pillows, fantastic faux fern plants, and galvanized lanterns to give customers an idea on how to use these pieces, as well as show how great they are used together.

Timeless Everyday Home Decor

Decorating with Ferns

Our key elements in the display can be used year round. Yes, one might think of ferns as a Spring or Summer plant, but really, nature looks good all year round, so ferns look good year round.

They add a pop of greenery and life to a room. We offer a handful of different fern pillows to choose from. Besides the pillows, we also offer tons of different style fern prints. Fern prints gathered in a collection on a wall are always a beautiful statement. Our fern prints have always been a best seller. 🌿

Don’t forget live fern houseplants for adding life to a room. Live ferns are seriously a dreamy plant. Whether they are an indoor houseplant or and outdoor variety, they always help create feelings of lushness. With so many indoor varieties, there’s definitely a fern for you. We usually carry Plumosa Ferns. They are so easy to care for. They should be first on your list of indoor ferns. They can be neglected and still thrive.🌿

Galvanized Metal adds a Rustic Touch

Metal Galvanized Tin Lanterns and Risers

We have ALWAYS loved lanterns! They are one of our key components in a display. They take up space and add interest and warmth to a vignette. Added to coffee tables, kitchen tables, buffets, countertops and more, they help make decorating easy. In our late a summer display, we’ve used three different style lanterns.

Candles and vignettes

Some of our lanterns are actually intended for candles. However, many of our lanterns and lantern like displays (white wood) are used in other clever ways. These large wood or metal lanterns actually help take guess the work out of decorating. Obviously one can add three to five candles, whether they be real or flameless, and they will look great in a lantern. But consider using that lantern or display as the basis for a vignette. Many of our lanterns are used with other bits of home decor added to them. Instead of candles, use houseplants, pictures, collections, and more in a small display. Placed on a buffet, with a few collected objects, and a bit of greenery, you have a beautiful display. The lantern, the display, it sets the stage for your creativity.

We have TONS of lantern ideas at Tattered Tiques. Also, notice the galvanized risers. Another shop staple. Risers are the best for adding height and importance to home decor.

Here’s one of our wood display lanterns. They take up space and make decorating easy. Just gather a few of your favorite things. Make sure to always add a bit of greenery!

Keep it Simple with White, Wood and Green

Houseplants help add life to a home

Obviously adding plants to a room can help add life and color. But they don’t have to be real houseplants. We always mix faux greenery and plants with real houseplants. It’s an easy, beautiful mix. In our end of Summer display we added both. That gorgeous speckled pothos was the real deal. It shined bright in that amazing old white, chippy cement planter. Both ended up selling together to one lucky customer! What a beautiful combination it was. Anyway… as I was saying, live plants, fake plants, it doesn’t matter… just add them to your displays and decorating.

Warm Woods add Warmth

It’s simple. Wood adds warmth. With all the different tones of wood out there, there’s bound to be a few that you can work with. We tend to love the lighter, bleached pine look, or the darker wood tones. We tend to stay away from yellow or orange tones.

In our display, we kept our wood planter box for a large statement piece, but for something different, we added greenery. We took out the summery hydranges, and instead added cascading, eucalyptus. It’s a simple swap, but it made a big difference. We repeated the eucalyptus in the large White Cottage Co. crock. We brought the eye down by again repeating the greenery, but this time with a large leafy green pick.

Baskets add Warmth and Cozy Feels to a Display

Adding baskets is always a good idea! Baskets add warmth, texture, and storage to a display. They allow you to add blankets, pillows, and collections to a room. We often use baskets to corral a ton of like items in a display, such as pictures, pillows, faux plants, candles, ornaments and more. In in our end of a summer display we paired a fern pillow with a sprig of greenery, for a happy combination.

Keep things Simple and Neutral by decorating with White

In our display, the common colors are white and green. These two colors a beautiful together. Decorating with white keeps things simple and easy. With white as one of your main colors, everything else can take center stage. In this example, it’s green. You can also swap things out when white is the back drop. Earlier in Summer we had a bunch of white, but the main colors added were red and blue. Our large and small white crocks make adding ingress to a display easy. They are cute in their own, but can be transformed by what you add to them. In the Fall, these crocks will get a bit of Autum greenery.

I hope this post gave you a little inspiration for late Summer decorating as we slowly push into Autumn. 🍂
