A day with Annie Sloan

Last Saturday, mom and I attended the Annie Sloan Tour workshops in Oak Brook. It was great to meet Annie and to listen to her give the history on her company, and product. We listened to Annie for 2 hours and then we broke for lunch, and then went on to our workshops, which were led by local stockist. It was so nice to get some questions answered, as well as learn more techniques. It's always fun and informative to attend these kinds of gatherings.

Here are the little paint pots that will be available soon. They are perfect for trying to decide witch color you will need for your projects.(Forgive me for the bad picture quality...taken on my phone)

This is the Annie Sloan display. She now has a fabric line, which includes toiles, florals, and ticking stripes.

And here is Annie Sloan herself, during her presentation. I have to say that she was one of the most charming adorable women I ever had the pleasure of listening too. She was very personable and quite funny too. I (Julie) am so, so pleased that we got to spend the day with her and all her talented stockist.

We are in the process of getting our basic paint classes together this week, so stay tuned. Our next post should have our paint class information for you.

Mixing It Up

I've been looking for the perfect piece to use two colors on. I love when people mix Annie Sloan's Louis Blue with Old White. I love the Louis Blue, but sometimes it can seem a little too blue for my taste. I do however love this color with dark wax on it, but I didn't want to dark wax this piece. So, I decided to tone down the Louis blue. I just added a little Paris Grey to it. The exact recipe was 3/4 Louis and 1/4 Paris Grey. IMG_3848

I think the color turned out perfect, and with a light tatter here and there, she definately makes a statement.

Beautiful!

This is her before shot. She actually was very pretty without paint, but dare I say...a little boring?

Now she looks like she's all dolled up and ready to go! Speaking of ready to go...she was for sale this week, but has sold already. YEAH! She went home with a very nice lady who is going to turn her into a sink vanity......LOVE that!

We are open this weekend, and we have tons of other adorable painted pieces. Come take a look!

A little Swiss, a little first aid, a little better.

IMG_3447

We had this little 3 drawer chest at the shop for a while. She was pretty plain and not in great shape. Sometimes we have to draw the line and say, "this piece is in just too bad of shape to sell." Well I was not going to give up on her.

I have been wanting to try a union Jack design, so I decided to it on this small piece. I painted her in Paris Grey and added a cross in Old White. When I finished with the first cross, I loved the way she looked, so I decided to leave her this way.

IMG_3419

She is still not in great shape, and I don't think she is sellable, but I love her all the same, so she will stay with me. I think she's lovely. A little swiss, a little fist aid, a little better.

Now...what am I going to practice my union jack on? Stay tuned...

Cable Knit Throw

Recently mom made me a cable knit throw.  It turned out BEAUTIFUL.  It is wonderful in all ways....color...size...thickness...everything.  I just had to share.  Winter will soon be coming to an end, and I just had to share with you what I curled up with this winter.

Image
Isn't it wonderful?

I love how chunky the cable knit is.  It adds up to the perfect warmth on a cold day.

I usually throw it over the foot of my bed when it's not is use.

It is the perfect addition to my bedroom.  My bedroom by the way is a work in progress.  It always ends up with all the clean unfolded laundry when guests are coming at the last minute, or the overflow of toys when cleaning the toy room. And yes, I sleep with deadly deer antlers over my head.  That's how I roll!

Hope you all have a great week.  We will be busy getting the shop ready this week for our next opening on March 15th.  See you then!

A Sea of Vases

There will be a sea of vintage vases at our next opening in March.  Anne and I split up last weekend and each went to an auction.  I had more luck than she did.  Look what I scored!  A whole lot of wonderful vintage cream and turquoise vases.  I think I'm in love!

Sprinkled into the mix are a few vases Anne bought yesterday.

This is part of my collection of vases.  It was one of my addictions years ago. I have a ton of vintage mixed in with newer ones.  I also have a bunch of vintage turquoise vases in another cabinet in my living room. The ones I picked up last weekend, however, are all yours.

We will be open tomorrow from 10:00- 1:00 for those of you who need paint, or just want to browse.  Our next opening is March 15,16,17.  A big thank you to all our faithful customers, and to all the new ones we recently met!  We had the biggest month ever this past February, so THANK YOU!  You guys are the greatest!
