Nesting

As some of you know...I'm(Anne) due at the end of the month with my 4th.  I have 3 boys and am finally being blessed with a little girl(YAY!!!).  Well, I have gone into full on nesting mode.  No, I don't mean I'm getting everything ready for the baby, my nesting has taken a more selfish role...I've been cleaning and decorating around the house.  And by "around the house", I mean every room, but the babies.  Anyway, I decided to share some pictures of what I've been up to.  I've been getting my bedroom in order.  I've decided to de-clutter a little bit. I'm very pleased with the results.

We recently took a trip to Ikea where I purchased all the drapery panels.  Beautiful linen white.  And only $25 for a pair!
Some of you may recognize the insanely beautiful antique armoire from the shop.  She was for sale at the shop for a while.  Somehow, I finagled my mom and sis into letting me have her.  I am honored to have her in my home...easily the most fabulous piece I own.  Her best feature? She completely breaks down to almost nothing...making it an easy move for my husband.

Another favorite of Tattered Tiques is the vintage dress form.

I keep my shop apron on mine and all my long necklaces.  I love this particular dress form, cause she isn't the usual.  She is covered in a beautiful vintage silk instead of the usual tweed fabric you usually see.

She also didn't come with a stand.  My son, found this old chippy step ladder at the bottom of my back yard(we have a couple acres that we purchased from a crazy lady...we find lots of oddities on our land).  He dragged it all the way up to the house and was so excited to show it to me...."Mom!  Look, I found a tattered tique at the bottom of the hill!"  Too cute....I'm so glad I have a place for it cause I love that it was his first "find".

The iron piece I use to hold extra blankets is from a vintage shop in Chicago. I bought it probably 8 years ago and I'm still not sure why. Just one of those pieces that spoke to me.

I love it's character.  I'm still not exactly sure what it was originally used for....I guess some sort of garden piece.  The pink blanket on top is a souvenir from a fabulous linen shop on Rue Cler in Paris.  The quilted blanket on the bottom is one of the very first quilts I ever made.

This is the view from my bed.  We found the mantel on one of Tattered Tiques first road trips together. It was on the Worlds Largest Yard Sale probably 6 years ago??  I think it was $40.  We cut a hole in our wall for our flat screen and added a gold frame around it.  I love the way it looks.

Love mom's cable knit throw she made me. The blue blanket is strategically placed over the gaping hole in the caning of my settee.  Thanks to my son.

This is my bedside table. Some of you may remember it from this post.  It originally was going to be sold at the shop, but I determined that it just wasn't in good enough shape to sell.  Funny enough...it seems to work perfectly for me. I'm sure my mom and sister think I just said that so I could keep it. Maybe I did, maybe I didn't.  I'll never tell.  However, you can tell in the picture that the top drawer doesn't fully shut properly...anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This amazing piece of artwork was a gift from my parents.  I LOVE and cherish it.  The artist is local and does the most amazing work.

I'm not a fan of my dresser, so I have purposely omitted it from this post, but here's a peek.  I'm on the hunt for a new one, so I'll share it when I find it's replacement! And yes, I do use these old jewelry boxes I found on ebay.

The one thing I'm missing?  A chandelier.  I know the ceiling fan is awful, but I only allow my husband a few comforts amid my decorating, and this happens to be one of them.
OK..now that I've finished my room, I'm off to start sewing for the baby.  I'm making her a vintage chenille crib blanket...I'll share pics soon!

  4. Hi, I love the room. Especially the armoire and mannequin. I've been looking for a vintage mannequin or dress form.. I stopped by your shop a couple months ago with my partner. We were buying some chalk paint and talked to you about our shop we were hoping to open in Wauconda. We finally got it open in December. We would love it if you stop by next time you are in the area.

  6. Beautiful! I came over from Redoux - glad I did. I also have 3 boys and then a girl (then a boy and 7 years later another girl). It's a fun combo. My older children are all teens now and it's fun to see how my boys still watch out for my girl. No body (meaning boys) mess with her.
