Goodbye good friend

IMG_4700

One day last week I woke up to a devastating blow. My Bloodhound, Clark, had passed during the night.  He was in great shape and the night before was totally fine, so it came as a complete suprise to us.  He was 9, but was a picture of health.  I believe he suffered from bloat(very common in Bloodhounds) that night and went quickly.  It is definitey a tough one for our family. He was well loved and liked by all who met him.

He was a gorgeous dog.  This photo was taken up at my parents cabin. It should be on a greeting card.

Look at that face!  I could get lost in those wrinkles!

This was Clarkie's pack.  Our dog Addison(right) passed two years ago...she was also a bloodhound, and was his big sis.  She taught him everything he knew.  Mayor(center) is a coonhound and is are only dog now. He's having a rough time without Clark. They were inseperable, so I think Mayor will mourn for quite a while.

Best buds.

Bloodhounds are some of the cutest puppies.   He had so much extra skin, that it would actually hang over his eyes and he would walk into walls.

We miss you buddy.  You were one of the greatest.

  1. I'm so sorry for your lost. I had 2 basset hounds that were brother and sister Matt and Katie. Katie passed last year on 04-19-11from kidney failure. And Matt has lost so much weight and looks so bad. I got him to kittens for company and they love each other so much. But he will never be the same. Hope your lone baby Mayor will do well with Clark gone. Praying for Mayor and your family. Blessings Lynda

  6. So sorry for your loss. He looked like a very special dog. We've lost 2 cats and 2 dogs due to old age since we married 19 years ago. One of the most comforting things said to us was that it's because they are so special that we hurt so much. Sending blessings your way : )

  8. I'm so sorry to hear of you loss. I knew there was something about you when I've shopped in your store. I too, am a bloodhound lover. I have had up to seven "bloodies" in my home at one time. I lost "The Colonel" to cancer almost a year ago and I still miss him very much. I lost Zeke the day after Christmas in 2010. Elvis and Priscilla, aka Miss Priss are still with me. Miss Priss was diagnosed with bladder cancer. We will enjoy each others company as much as we can now. I rescue and foster bloodhounds as well. They truly are a special breed. You really must love the breed to be owned by a bloodhound. The next time I visit your store, I will introduce myself. I think there is a special place in heaven just for bloodhounds where they can romp and play, bay as loud as they please and throw big bloodhound goobers where ever and when ever they want.
